England along with Welsh Pitted in the Same Group for 2027 Rugby World Cup Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The group draw was overseen by sporting legends such as two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

England together with Wales will face off in the same pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a major early clash in the tournament Down Under. They are joined in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This draw recalls their memorable meeting in the group phase of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at Twickenham played a part in the hosts' surprise group stage elimination.

Key Group Draws

Ireland and the Scots also share a pool once again, just as the situation from the 2023 edition. In that tournament, they secured a convincing victory, with their opponents failing to progress to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, who each impressed as surprise packages in France, round out that same group.

Notably, the winners of both Pool D and Pool F cannot meet defending champions and world number one South Africa until the showpiece match, assuming the Springboks top their own group.

Knockout Implications

If the pools play out in line with the current global standings, other top favourites like New Zealand and Les Bleus would also be kept apart from both the English and Ireland until the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the other highly-seeded nation on the same side of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Draw Major Fixture

Hosts the Wallabies have been drawn together with their trans-Tasman rivals and triple champions New Zealand in Group A.

Australia will kick off the World Cup in the city of Perth on 1 October 2027 in a marquee fixture aimed at launch the competition.

Elsewhere, holders South Africa have drawn Italy, the Lelos and the Oaks. France are grouped with the Brave Blossoms, future hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will take on the Flying Fijians, Los Leones and the Canadian team as the World Cup grows to 24 teams from the twenty who competed in 2023.

The 2027 tournament will introduce a last-16 stage for the very first time in the competition's existence.

Although the victor of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the rugby's biggest beasts early on, they will have to face the second-placed team from Pool B – most likely the Italians – in the last 16.

Four of the other six pool winners will play a team that finished third from the pool stages.
