Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident made him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
